How did my practice name come about ?

Clinical Psychologist, East, Changi, centropod, psychotherapy, therapy, counselling, healing, support, grief, OCD,trauma, loss

In addition to its wordplay of the phrase “bright side of life”, it reminds me of the catchy and relatable song “Always look on the Bright side of life”. In the same way, I wish that this practice name can serve as a reminder to us all to not lose sight of hope and light when the going gets tough or when life takes us on one of those emotional dips (through a dark tunnel) on roller coaster rides!

I tend to endorse a more balanced stance in which we view life with lens of curiosity, hope and realism while at the same time acknowledging the messiness, tears and painful experiences. With such a frame, I hope to journey with my potential clients who are facing challenges to first process their pain and hurt, and eventually replace their unhelpful and self-limiting narratives and outlooks to life with a more empowering narrative, towards equilibrium.

Cheers!

One day, a person was sailing in his boat out in the sea, seeking an adventure of a lifetime. The sea is huge and seems tumultuous, with big waves of changes and uncertainties ahead. The person felt alone, lost and helpless…

Then something struck him; something changed… a ray of sun shone on him - just like the warmth, love and care experienced in a supportive relationship.  He starts to look up to the source of light and warmth; with connection, understanding and empathy, sparks and hope get co-created in the process. These seem to illuminate his journey in the sea. Thereafter, he sailed with greater sense of purpose and ease towards his heart’s desire. As he is on his way towards his North Star, he rests in his boat, appreciating the beautiful horizon in front of him while being grateful to himself for his openness and resilience that got him to where he is.

Such can be our story at some point in our lives…

"Not all those who wander are lost" - we may wander out in adventure and get lost in process but… as we reorient ourselves, we may discover many gems about ourselves along the way. With appropriate support along the way, we can restore our positioning and regain our direction again.

Aha! Eureka moment
A spark of possibilities

It is my intention to create opportunities of Aha! or eureka moments for my clients during the course of our therapy together.

Through these Aha ! moments, they may experience sparks of inspiration and insight about themselves and their lives, and regain motivation to change the narratives and outlooks of their lives for the better.  As this occurs, their paths get illuminated which in turn lend them a newfound clarity in terms'of direction and purpose.
