Caring

My modalities in therapy

I utilise evidence-based approaches such as Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), EFT for couples, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (including Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness in my therapy work.

My areas of interest

In my career as a Clinical Psychologist, I have dealt primarily with adolescents and adults experiencing interpersonal and relational concerns, stress and anger management difficulties, grief and loss, trauma and abuse, mood disturbances, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and personality disorders.

I am an advocate for continuous learning and consider ongoing professional training and accreditation as essential to remain a relevant support and guide to clients I have the honour of working with.

As I navigate multiple roles as a parent to my school-going children, an adult child to elderly parents, and as a spouse, I have since developed interest and embarked on further learning in the areas of intergenerational (developmental) trauma, attachment styles, caregiver's burnout, and understanding and working with couple's dynamics and interactions.

Experiencing a loss of my loved one propelled me to seek deeper insights about grief and loss and it is through this process that I eventually attained certification as a Grief Educator. From this role as well as grief-informed lens, I strive to journey alongside bereaved individuals in navigating their loss, helping them understand their grief and building a meaning life that honours their loved ones.

I cannot say I have perfected them all, though I have been intentionally equipping myself with knowledge from relevant conferences and trainings and applying frameworks and strategies from the field. I am an advocate for practice makes progress and feel that we are all works in progress in this journey of life/therapy. So, one step at a time, I would like to support you in transforming your pain into purpose and healing.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Do I ensure privacy and confidentiality of therapy sessions?

What to expect for your first session?

I adhere to the Singapore Psychological Society(SPS)’s Code of Ethics for psychotherapy sessions.

All psychotherapy sessions are strictly confidential.

The limits of confidentiality apply to exceptional instances whereby clients pose a risk to themselves or others or when clients are involved with court matters and their notes are subpoenaed by court.

What modes of psychotherapy do I provide?

In light of increased connectivity and availability of online platforms, I now offer online consultation in addition to in-person consultations. Do indicate prior to our first session what mode you prefer.

What are my rates & cancellation policy?

My rates differ for:

-Individual psychotherapy

-couple psychotherapy

-grief support group

-mental health and grief education and training

Please enquire directly for specific rate.

My consultation sessions are scheduled by hourly blocks. For a consultation where one fails to turn up or cancel last minute, it will translate to unfortunate losses to both clients (especially those on wait-list) and psychologist.

I understand that unforeseen situations may occur. I am willing to provide a waiver for the first late cancellation or missed appointment. However, please understand that subsequent late cancellation or missed appointment  (i.e., less than 48 hours notice period) will incur a 100% of session fee.

Prior to your first session, you would receive complete an intake form and consent for engagement. These will allow me to assess suitability and if I am not the appropriate help for you, I will direct you to appropriate alternative support.

If you are seeing me for therapy ( individual or couple), the duration of session is about 50 minutes.

During your first session, confidentiality and its limits will be explained to you in person and do feel free to clarify or discuss concerns.

Therapeutic alliance and your focus in therapy (what do you need help for?) will be the aim for first sessions, as these are important factors to guide psychologist’s understanding and treatment planning. Relevant background history will be explored as well, in the course of the first two sessions.

Know that you are courageous to be taking the first step out of your comfort zone to speak to a therapist.  Way to go!

What is the frequency and length of sessions?

More regular sessions (weekly or fortnightly) at the start of therapy is recommended. The ultimate goal in therapy is to empower clients such that they can eventually rely on their own resources and skills learnt in therapy. Towards the end of therapy, time lapse between sessions will be larger, in order to allow opportunity for clients to practise what they learnt.

The length of sessions needed really depends on numerous factors e.g., nature of concern(s) and ideal state clients wish to achieve. Just a note that the current concern you face may have its history in past events/experiences and affected you for some time before you decide to come to therapy, so likewise, changing your situation and/or well-being in your preferred direction (i.e., to get you from where you are to where you want to be (ideal)) may require some time.

We can get an estimate of number of sessions that is required once we have a clearer sense of your focus(es)  in therapy and treatment plan.

If you are keen to start therapy with me, collaborate for mental health consultation and training or discuss suitability,  do click on “get in touch”.

You will receive response within 2-3 working days.
