Dear everyone,
As 2025 is coming to a close, I have been reflecting upon my past year and realised how grateful I am to have supported many individuals on their journeys so far. Whilst supporting them on their journeys, not only do I get exclusive front-row access to their personal stories (many of which are painful, heartbreaking and inspiring), I also get to partner them on uncovering their truths, envisioning the lives they yearn for and collaboratively work with them towards achieving them. I absolutely do not take the trust entrusted upon me for granted. And I am honoured to have witnessed so much courage, tenacity and resilience in all the individuals I worked with and learnt so much from them and the therapy journeys.
In this past year of running my own private practice, many have enquired and expressed curiosity about how therapy process with me is like. To that, I felt no word can sufficiently address this, for after all, it is best experienced for yourself - in your heart, mind and body as we journey together. However, I understand that for most of you, it is helpful to at least get a sense of this, before deciding about help seeking. I believe that picture paints a thousand words and in this case, I am attempting to use an animation clip to try to illustrate this.
A brief description of the process:
Clients often enter therapy, slightly wary, worn out, demotivated, lost and helpless, as depicted by the image of client with fog over the head and entangled ropes around the heart. At the start of therapy, clients tend to present with limited trust and some tendency to avoid connection - possibly in light of past/current relational conflicts and/or injuries experienced. As we continue to engage meaningfully in therapy, and as the connection and trust (signified by the heart waves) between us grow stronger, the fog gradually get uplifted while the ropes around the heart disentangle slowly, but surely. This suggests how trust and connection make for conducive environment in which clients can benefit adequately from the therapy process. Clients at this point get a renewed sense of clarity and refreshed sense of purpose, meaning and motivation. With that, clients tend to propel towards their desired goal with greater ease and conviction. This is a possible focus in therapy process - to help clients not just clarify but also work towards the best possible outcome(s) for themselves. Of course, there are other reasons clients seek help for - and you may read more about them in another one of my blog entries: https://www.brightpsychoflife.com.sg/post/psych-myth-buster-part2-2
I imagine this animation can likely benefit those in need of support but who, at the same time, wish to get a glimpse into therapy process with me before deciding to reach out for support. If this resonates, know that you are not alone and reach out whenever you feel ready to embark on your journey.
